Kerin's Top Ten: Skincare Products

Hello World! I just want to start my saying I am nowhere near an expert on skincare.  With that being said, here's my top ten skincare products (in no particular order) that I have used, so it is a very limited sample.

I aslo want to say that I have oily-combination, acne prone skin, so the products I picked are catered to those needs.

Top Ten Skincare Products!

I loved this moisturizer! It's really hydrating and helps with skin discoloration and acne scars. See my full review of it here!

This product is great to use at first signs of a breakout, and helps clear your skin quickly.

This is by far my absolute favorite facial wash! It is really great at keeping my skin clear and preventing breakouts!

POND'S Clarant B3 Dark Spot Correcting Cream
With this cream, I see a visible difference in my acne scars and skin discoloration in just a week!

You might think that an oil wouldn't be very good for oily skin, but this oil is so hydrating and smoothing. I like to mix it into a cream moisturizer as an added boost!

This moisturizer is mattifying without drying out your skin! It can also be used as a primer!

After I use this mask,  my skin feels so soft, smooth and refreshed. It definitely removes the excess oils, while still leaving your skin with a radiant glow!

This is great at removing makeup, especially eye makeup, particularly mascara, which I always had a hard time removing.

I like to use this cleanser when I've already broken out, because it helps to clear my skin pretty quickly. And the mask version of this is pretty great as well!

This is another very hydrating moisturizer, that is very rich and creamy, but not oily or too thick.

Sunday Riley Tidal Review

Hello World! Here's my review of the Sunday Riley Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water!

So, I've been using this moisturizer for a couple of weeks now, and I really like it. It claims to hydrate and replenish skin and help with uneven skin tones, and it is as good as it claims. When I first applied it,  I found that it was instantly moisturizing and very hydrating on my skin, without being oily. It can even be worn on top of your makeup, if you notice you need a little extra moisture. I like to apply it at night, so it can seep into my skin overnight, and again after I wash my face in the morning. I have also noticed that it has helped to visibly reduce my dark marks, so I will definitely continue using it!

Life Update: 04.25.17

Hello World!

So I want to first start by apologizing for not posting on Saturday. I could lie and say I was doing something important, but the truth is I literally spent all weekend watching Boy Meets World (I need help).

Playoffs Updates: The Warriors swept! Go DubNation!!!

The Pacers got swept. :(  Rockets looking to close out the Thunder tonight! Memphis surprisingly tied up the series with San Antonio, but I still think the Spurs are going to win.  Griffin is out, so I think the Jazz might be able to win the series, but it doesn't really matter who wins that series, because they get the Warriors next. Like Dame Dolla said last night, if you ever want to get out the West, you have to go through the Warriors.

School is finally winding now. My professors literally do not care anymore, and neither do I. I have one more test, and then finals, and that's it.

I'm debating whether I should go to Compicpalooza this year. I want to go, but I don't know if i can afford it. I had unexpected expenses regarding my son's health (he's doing better now).  The tickets are $70 each, but I don't if it's worth it. I mean, the coolest person who's going to be there is Anthony Mackie! Anthony Mackie!?!  Oh well, decisions, decisions....

'Quick and Simple Everyday' Makeup

Hello World! So today's look is a super quick and easy look, that you could wear everyday (if you were to wear makeup everyday). This look only took me ten minutes, so it's great if you're crunched for time!

Step 2: Prime! For this look, I used e.l.f. Poreless Face Primer, because it's mattifying and pore-filling all in one step!

Step 3:  Color Correct!  I used the orange corrector from L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer. I applied it to the dark spots on my face and under my eyes, and blended it out with a sponge.

Step 4: Stick Foundation.  I suggest a stick foundation because it's quick to apply and blend out. I used Maybellline Fit Me Shine-Free + Balance Stick Foundation in the shade 355 Coconut.

Step 5: Powder.  I used a translucent powder to set my face, so my makeup would last all day! I used Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in the shade Medium/Deep.

Step 6: Eyebrows!  This step is optional, but personally I just like having fuller brows! I used the Benefit Goof Proof Brow pencil  in the shade deep 05 and the Benefit Ready, Set, Brow! 24-Hour setting gel to set them.
See all active offers at Benefit Cosmetics!
Step 7: Eyes! I applied a skin tone color into my crease, and blended it out! And that's it!  I used my Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette, using the color Truffle, which a medium brown.

Step 8: Blush! To add dimension and color back to my face, I  applied blush in a sweeping motion from the apples of my cheeks to my temples using a fluffy powder brush. I used Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush  in the shade paarty.

Step 9: Highlight!  I applied my highlight right above the apples of my cheeks and along the bridge of my nose, and to the tip of my nose using a fan brush. I used the shade Gleam in the Tarte Tartiest Pro Glow to Go highlight & contour palette.

Step 10: Eyeliner and mascara.  I applied a black pencil eyeliner from Marc Jacobs to upper and lower lash line, and then, I applied Benefit They're Real! mascara to my upper and lower lashes.

Step 11: Set! I set my face using L'oreal Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender setting spray.
Step 12: Selfie! Share on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, kerinskorner.com, etc.

Happy Playoff Season!

Kerin's Top Ten: How to be HUMBLE. (lesson from K-Dot)

Hello World!

So this week, I have been pretty obsessed with Kendrick's Lamar's new album DAMN., and I thought I'd share with you something I've learned from the proclaimed rap savior. I think it's really fitting that the first single released from the album was HUMBLE., because besides that song, the entire album is filled with verses of K-Dot explaining to us how one acts humble, which it such an appropriate lesson because people today are so self-absorbed and full of themselves, especially in the rap game. So it is refreshing to see a rapper who is a little more modest.  So anyway, here are my top ten lines from DAMN. of Kendrick teaching us how to be HUMBLE.

1. I just win again, then win again like Wimbledon,  I serve
Yeah, that's him again, the sound that engine in is like a bird
You see fireworks and Corvette tire skrrt the boulevard
- DNA.

Here Kendrick gives a shout out to some other Compton natives, Venus and Serena Williams, who have won a modest 17 trophies at Wimbledon, and so to compare himself to them it's like saying 'I win, but not much'. He's being modest clearly, because he has 7 Grammys.  Then to further show his humility, he describes the modest car he drives - a simple corvette with a turbo engine (bird sound) and custom exhaust pipes (fireworks).

2. I got 'em by a landslide, we talking' about races
You know this'll never be a tie, just look at their laces
- ELEMENT.

3. Mr. One through Five, that's the only logic
Fake my death, go to Cuba, that's the only option
-ELEMENT.

Many people would say Kung Fu Kenny is the greatest rapper today, some would say of all time, but here he says he's only the top five at best.

4. I feel like debating on who the greatest can stop it
I am legend, I feel like all of y'all is peasants
I feel like all of y'all it desperate
I feel like all it take is a second to feel like
Mike Jordan whenever holding' a real mic
- FEEL.

5. My resume is real enough for two millenniums
A better way to a make a wave, stop defendin' them
- LOYALTY.

Most rappers are bold enough to say their music will last forever, but not Kendrick. He's says between his last two albums, he only has a enough hits to two millenniums.

6. Piss out your per diem, you just gotta hate 'em, funk
If I quit your BM, I still ride Mercedes, funk
If I quit this season, I still be the greatest, funk
- HUMBLE.

Some rappers be talking about champagne showers and buying bottles on bottles on bottles on bottles, but Kendrick says he only spends about as much money as you make on drinks, and he just drives a modest car like a Mercedes. Then he says he'd be the greatest, but just for this season, not of all time.

7. My left stroke just went viral
Right stroke put lil' baby in a spiral
Soprano C, we like to keep it on a high note
-HUMBLE.

8. My DNA not for imitation
Your DNA an abomination
- DNA.

Here, Kendrick says his DNA is nothing special, not copy him. Your DNA is the one that's different and special. An abomination is something that's against the norm, unheard of, unique!

9.  I blew cool from AC, ayy
Obama just paged me, ayy
I dont't fabricate it, ayy
Most of y'all be faking, ayy
I stay modest 'bout it, ayy
She elaborate it, ayy
-HUMBLE.

10. Been a bad b*tch way before any cash came
I'm established
- Rihanna in LOYALTY.

So I know this is actually Rihanna's verse, but it's from the album, and it's a perfect lesson in humility. Here Rihanna has stayed the same person, and fame and money hasn't changed her. She's still the modest "bad b*tch" that she was before.

Life Update: Happy Playoffs!

Hello World! Happy NBA Playoff Season! #DUBnation #StrengthinNumbers

I'm so excited the playoffs started this weekend! It's my favorite part of the year - it's like a holiday season for me. And I think the season started off well withe the Pacers - Cavs game, which was really close, but the Pacers couldn't close it out. (PG said he has to be the one to take the last shot!) I am excited to see what happens, but I predict it will be Golden State and Cleveland coming out the west and east respectively for another Finals rematch.

So, in my last update, I said was thinking about taking up one of the other fellows offer to ride together to New Orleans, and I did end up contacting her, and we're going to iron out the details together later.

Sorry this post is so short, but honestly I don't have that much to update on. But if you haven't already you should listen to K-Dot's DAMN. It's no I Decided, but it's pretty great!

'Fun Game Day' Makeup

Hello World! Happy NBA Playoffs! So yesterday was game day, so I decided to do a fun look to celebrate. And, of course my team  is the Golden State Warriors, so I used blues and yellows. Go Dubnation!

Step 1: As always I washed and moisturized my face. Skin care is the most important step in any makeup routine. Starting with a clean moisturized face will help your makeup stay on longer. I used Sunday Riley Tidal  Brightening Enzyme Water Cream.

Step 2: Prime! For this look, I used e.l.f. Poreless Face Primer.

Step 3:  Color Correct!  I used the orange corrector from L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer. I applied it to the dark spots on my face and under my eyes, and blended it out with a sponge.

Step 4: Foundation.  I used L'oreal Infallible Pro - Matte in the shade Cocoa 112.  I applied it to my face with my fingers and blended it out with a sponge.

Step 5: Powder. This foundation is a little red on me, so I applied a powder to balance out the undertones, and to help keep the foundation from creasing. I used Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in the shade Medium/Deep.

Step 6: Concealer.  I applied concealer under my eyes in a triangle shape from inner corner to top of my cheek bones, along the bridge of my nose, and on my chin. Then I blended it out with a sponge, and "baked" with a translucent powder.  I used  Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer in the shade Biscuit and the Sacha Buttercup Setting Powder.

Step 7: Eyebrows!  While my concealer was "baking", I used the Benefit Goof Proof Brow pencil in the shade deep 05 to fill in my brows and the Benefit Ready, Set, Brow! 24-Hour setting gel to set them. See all active offers at Benefit Cosmetics.

Step 8: Eyes! I applied my eye makeup, while my concealer was still "baking".  First I primed my eyes using Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.  Then using my Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette, using a fluffy brush, I applied the color Butter Pecan (a shimmery cream/tan color) in my crease as a transition color. Then using my SHANY Comestics eye shadow palette, I applied a yellowish tan color to my crease. Using the same palette, I then applied a bright yellow to my lids using a flat brush. I then applied a bright aqua to the inner and outer corners of my eyes, and blended it into my crease. I then applied a bright blue to the outer corners of my eyes, and using a tampered brush, I dragged then same color along my lower lash line.

Step 9: Blush! First I dusted off the excess powder from my "baking", then I applied blush in a sweeping motion from the apples of my cheeks to my temples using a fluffy powder brush. I used Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush  in the shade paarty.

Step 10: Highlight!  I applied my highlight right above the apples of my cheeks and along the bridge of my nose, and to the tip of my nose using a fan brush.  I then used a pointed eye brush to apply the highlight below my brow bone. I used the shade Gleam in the Tarte Tartiest Pro Glow to Go highlight & contour palette.

Step 11: Eyeliner and mascara.  I applied a neon blue eyeliner to upper and lower lash line, and then, I applied Marc Jacobs Beauty O!Mega Lash Volumizing mascara in the color All About Yves to my upper and lower lashes.

Step 12: Set! I set my face using L'oreal Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender setting spray.

Step 13: Lips! I didn't have a blue lip color, so I mixed the blue eyeshadow I used from the SHANY Comestics eye shadow palette and a nude lip gloss, to create my blue lip gloss. I used a gloss from the Sephora Collection Lip Artist Palette.

Step 13: Selfie! Share on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, kerinskorner.com, etc.

Happy Playoff Season!
