Tuesdays with Kerin: This is It!

Hello World!

This is it! I'm done! I did it! I had my last final today, and now I'm done with the year! YASSSSSS!!! This time couldn't have come any later, because I am so done with school. But alas now I get a reprieve.
Hmmm.. let's see what did I do last week...

Well my new found love of Supernatural has turned into full blown addiction. It is literally all I do. I sit down, eat ice, and play Solitaire while I watch Supernatural. I'm over halfway through season 7 now, and it's still good!

If I'm not watching Supernatural, then I'm watching the NBA Playoffs, except for the Rockets, because I'm not allowed to watch them. After careful experimentation, I found that whenever I watch the Rockets they lose. As much as I want to be apart of their success, I can't. I'm a bad luck charm, so I must be a fan from afar. But I can watch the Warriors all day! Thankfully, neither DubNation or RedNation, let me down, so we gone have a lit Western Conference Final. Ay! Get Excited! On the other hand, I am so disappointed in the 76ers, in particular Ben "Mr. 1 point" Simmons. But can we just take a moment to appreciate Lebronto, Ontario? Yeah, because Lebron owned the Raptors.  But regardless of whoever wins between the Celtics and the 76ers, the Eastern Conference Finals doesn't seem like it will be that exciting, and Lebron is going to win.

Believe it or not, I did not go to the movies last week. I know. Shocker. But I am supposed to see Deadpool 2 and Mama Mia 2 this week, so I guess I'm making up for it.

Instead of a flick, I saw a different kind of show. Saturday, I went the Houston Symphony with my mother. We saw Mozart's clarinet concerto and Brahms's A German Requiem.  We had seats in the orchestra, which I thought would be nice, because we would be close to the stage. But I didn't realized how close to the stage we'd be. We were only two rows back from the stage. The seats in front of us could literally touch the stage. So if I go again, I'll probably sit a few rows back. But the show was really nice. I really enjoyed the clarinet concerto, and A German Requiem started out fine, but after the 3rd movement I was ready to go. Overall, I really enjoyed the show. It reminded me of when I was in the band (btw I played the flute and I was a boss), and made me wish I had stuck with my music. But alas, I am no artist.

Yeah, I think that's everything. Sorry my life isn't that exciting. I'll try to do better.

Real Techniques Brush Crush Collection: What's the Tea?

Hello World!

So a few weeks ago, I ordered the new limited edition Brush Crush Collection from Real Techniques, and I've finally gotten around to using it. The collection has 8 brushes, a sponge, and a silicon applicator. The design of the whole collection is very cute with pink, purple and glitter! But do they work? I tried everything from the collection and here are my thoughts.

301 Foundation Brush - $12.99

This was the first thing I tried from the collection, and I was very disappointed. Real Techniques makes one of my favorite foundation brushes, so I was very excited to try this one. It appears to be very full, dense, and rounded, which would make for easy blending. But the brush hair is very rough and not as densely packed as it appears. It also feels like it's tapered, which makes blending difficult, and leaves streaks. I would definitely recommend you pass on this brush and instead go for the Expert Face Brush

300 Powder Brush - $12.99

This is a perfect powder brush. It's super soft and very full. The arched cut allows you to lightly sweep powder on all areas of your face for a flawless powder application. I would definitely recommend this brush!

302 Blush Brush - $12.99

I was surprised by how much I liked this brush. When I first saw it, I didn't think it was a blush brush because of it's shaped. It has a slightly tapered triangle tip to concentrate the blush on the apples of your cheeks, which I thought would apply too much product in one area. But the brush is soft and fluffy, so product just washes over your cheeks and blends effortlessly.

303 Contour Brush - $12.99

I like to use contour brushes shaped like this for contouring my nose, more than the rest of my face. But most brushes like this are very thin, so you can apply the contour exactly and then blend it out. But this brush is very thick, which I didn't think would work for my nose. But surprise, surprise... it did! It has a flat edge for applying contour with precision, but because it is so thick and soft, it's like you're blending as you apply. So it works beautifully for both the nose and the face.

304 Fan Brush - $12.99

I would like to preface this by saying I am not a fan of fan brushes. I much prefer teardrop brushes for highlighting, but fan brushes are meant to apply a soft sweep of product. But that was not the case for this brush. This brush picks up a lot of product. It makes application very easy, but it's definitely not a soft sweep and definitely not a subtle highlight.

305 Shadow Brush - $9.99

This is your  basic standard eyeshadow blending brush. It's very soft and it has a tapered end, which is great for blending. Besides how it looks, there is nothing special about this brush. But it is a good brush.

306 Kabuki Brush - $16.99

This is easily my favorite thing from the entire collection. First off, this brush is just super cute, but it also performs perfectly. This brush is huge, round, and super soft, which makes it perfect for applying powders including bronzers and highlighters all over the face and body. I LOVE this brush!

Diamond Sponge - $9.99
This is another item that is super cute but also very functional. This sponge is very soft and gentle on the skin, but firm enough that it keeps it's shape as you press it against your face. The shape of this sponge is perfect for blending in those hard to reach areas of your face. The pointed tip is great for under the eye and around the nose. The flat top is great for all over the face.

307 Finishing Brush (only available in Shimmer + Shine Set)
This is a nice brush. It's very similar to the 302 Blush Brush, but it's slightly smaller and less tapered. But it's super soft and applies powders nicely.

Diamond Foundation Applicator (only available in Luminous Glow Set)

Real Techniques described this as a "smooth, flexible surface helps to hygienically transfer product to your skin." And that's pretty accurate. This is nice way to apply liquid product to face without having to use your fingers or using too much product, but you will still need a brush or sponge, because you can't blend with this. It works fine, but it seems unnecessary to me.

Overall, I really like this collection. I think it's super cute and pretty affordable. You can also save some money you buy one of the two sets offered by Real Techniques. The Luminous Glow set comes with the 304 Fan Brush, the 302 Blush Brush, the 303 Contour Brush, the Diamond Foundation Applicator, and the Diamond Sponge. It retails for $29.99. The Shimmer + Shine set comes with the 300 Powder Brush, the 305 Shadow Brush, the 307 Finishing Brush, and a cute makeup bag. It also retails for $29.99. The only brush I would not recommend is the 301 Foundation Brush, and if you're only going to get one thing from this collection it should be either the 306 Kabuki Brush or the Diamond Sponge.

Happy Makeup Monday!

Tuesdays With Kerin: Wednesday May 2nd

Hello World!

So this is the part where I would usually say something about not posting last week or the fact that today is Wednesday and not Tuesday, but you already know the drill, so I think I'll just skip all that and get right to it. Okay, then.

This is my last week of school! Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! Then I have finals next week, and I'm done with school!
Well, at least until August.

I haven't really gotten up to anything since the last time I posted. At least nothing memorable. I should really stick to my weekly posting, because my memory is terrible. Or maybe I should just start writing things down. I digress.

Anyway, I recently really gotten into Supernatural. I started the show a while ago and would watch it occasionally, but I didn't want to make the commitment to watch it because it has so many seasons. But I finally took the plunge, and now I'm on Season 5 and 13. Yes, I skipped to the current season, while simultaneously watching previous season. So what?

In other exciting news, I got my passes for Comicpalooza this week! This is my first convention, so I'm pretty excited, even though I heard it's been pretty lame in the past. But Tom Holland's going to be there! So win!

On that note, I did see Avengers: Infinity War. I went to the opening night fan event, and that was a god-awful experience. Fans are literally the most annoying people to watch movies with. Anyway, I've seen the movie twice now, and will have a review for you soon!

I hope you guys have been watching the NBA playoffs because I have. And Steph's back! Get pumped!

Anyway, my picks didn't pan out, so here my new picks for this round.

  • The West: Rockets, Warriors
  • The East: 76ers, Cavaliers
But I'm really just waiting for the Rockets- Warriors series. It's gon be lit!

Alas, that tis all!

Tuesdays with Kerin: Another Wednesday Update

Hello World!

So yeah it's another Wednesday update, so maybe I should rename this series Tuesdays/Wednesdays with Kerin... nah! That's too much extra work!

So what's been happening? What's up? I always tell you guys what's going on with me, but never ask about you. How rude! So let me know in the comments.

Rampage PosterBut back to me... let's see what did I do last week...

I didn't end up going to the Rampage early screening, however I did see it on Sunday, so a review could be coming soon!

I Feel Pretty PosterHowever, I did go to the advance screening of I Feel Pretty, and might be going to another tonight, but that is not indicative of  how I feel about this movie.

Let me know which movie I should review!

With my newly found free time last week, I started going to the gym, which is gross! I hate going to the gym. There is literally nothing about it I like. But I need to workout, and I like being active. But I'm more of sport or activity type of person. Like sign me up for hip-hop cardio any day!

NBA playoffs stated this weekend!!! And the Warriors are back! They just flipped the switch and are playing like champions again. All the games I've watched have been mostly good, even though there have been some blowouts.  But my first round picks are:

  • The West: Rockets, Warriors, Thunder, Pelicans
  • The East:  Wizards, Celtics, Heat, Cavaliers
Really, I'm just hoping for some upsets!

Anyway, there's your quick little update about what I've been up to this past week!

If there are any specific posts you'd like to see, let me know via comment, twitter, instagram, etc.
