Kerin's Top 10: Must Have Makeup Brushes

Hello World!

Since in the world that is Kerin's Korner, this week started on Tuesday, there was no Makeup Monday this week. ☹ So I thought I just sneak a cheeky little makeup post in today! Don't worry, it's still a Top 10, so I'm not breaking any rules.  Anyway here's the top ten makeup brushes and tools, I think every makeup user needs to have in their kit.

1. Flat Top Kabuki Brush

Perfect for blending out liquid and cream products! It makes your job easier and quicker and leaves you with a flawless, airbrushed finish! I use it for foundations, but it could also be used for cream contour and blush. Just about every brand makes a version of this brush so you can find it anywhere. I personally really like the one from Real Techniques.

2. Flat Foundation Brush

Great for blending out cream products! Perfect if you want full coverage! I like to use it to blend out my under-eye concealer, so I can get maximum coverage. This is also great for baking, because it's so dense and flat, so you can really pack the powder right under your eye. And the rounded edge is perfect for getting into the corners of your eye! I like to use one side to blend out my concealer and then I flip to the other side to apply my powder for baking. You can find this brush from a lot different brands. e.l.f. makes a great one for only $2! My favorite is from Tarte in their Artful Accessories Brush Set.

3. Velour Puff

Absolute must-have for loose powders, but good for pressed powders as well! The thing about loose powders is they can be very messy. But the puff is perfect for picking up and applying powder, with minimal mess. And it molds perfectly to your face for easy application. I use it for my baking powder and to set my face, because I can really pressed the powder into my skin, so my makeup will last longer.  Laura Mercier makes hands down the best one!

4. Large Powder Brush

You want to look for large fluffy brush with a dome-shaped head. This brush is perfect for a diffused application of powder products over larger areas of the face. And great for blending everything together! After I finish my makeup, I like to sweep this brush all my face with no product on it at all or with a little translucent powder, just to blend all the other products together. This brush is also great for correcting mistakes! Just take this brush and a little translucent powder and blend away any  excess blush, contour, etc. I also like to use this brush to apply blush and contour/bronzer. This brush is also very easy to find.  e.l.f. makes a great inexpensive one!

5. Angled Eyeliner Brush

The angled end makes it perfect for creating a precise line! It's great for gel and liquid liner, but also good for eyeshadows and powders. It can be use for precise application of eyeshadows. I also like to use this brush to fill in my eyebrows. The angled end makes it easy to create hair-like strokes, for a more natural looking brow! Every brand makes a version of this brush! Morphe makes one for just $2!

6. Tapered Eyeshadow Blending Brush

This brush is perfect for blending out eyeshadow! Because it's so fluffy, but still dense, it'll blend out your eyeshadow perfectly, but still provide you with excellent color pay-off. And it can used with both cream and powder eyeshadows. I like to use this brush to blend eyeshadows into my crease and to buff out the edges, so my eyeshadow looks more diffused. A lot brands make a version of this brush, but I really like the one from Luxie!

7. Precision Shader Brush

Can be used for cream and powder eyeshadows! The slightly pointed end gives you full control when applying color. I like to use it to apply color to my eyelid and for precise application of dark colors into the outer corner of my crease.  This brush is a little harder to find, but a lot of high-end makeup lines carry this brush. I know Make-up Forever and MAC make a version, but I really like the one from Luxie, sold exclusively through ispy.

8. Flat Definer Eyeshadow Brush

This a versatile, multipurpose eyeshadow brush! It can used to pack on color on your lid, apply precise eyeliner, and smudge your lower lash line. I also like to use this brush to fill in my eyebrows. The straight edge makes it easy to create hair-like strokes, and it's dense enough to apply a lot of color! This brush is easy to find from a lot of brands! e.l.f. makes a good one for only $3!

9. Tapered Highlighting  Brush

Best brush for highlighting! You want to look for a dense brush with a tear-dropped shaped head. The precise tip makes it easy to apply highlight to the upper contours of your face, your brow bone, and the inner corner of your eye. I use it for all of the above! I love this kind of brush because it allows you to build up the highlight to a mega-watt glow or you can diffuse the product for a more subtle glow.  This brush is also fairly easy to find, but I really like the #3 brush from the BH Cosmestics collaboration with ItsMyRayeRaye brush set!

10. Makeup Sponge

Last but certainly not least, the makeup sponge! No makeup kit is complete without a makeup sponge. Sponges are great at blending out cream and liquid product, and they'll give you a more natural look, because they suck up excess product. The only drawback is that they are so hard to clean. A lot brands make sponges, and a lot of them are bad. The beautyblender and the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge are the best! I like the Real Techniques one better because it has a flat edge, that works great for baking.

Tuesdays with Kerin: I'm back... Again

Hello World,

Guess who's back...
Back again...
Kerin's back...
Tell a friend...
Guess who's back... Guess who's back... Guess who's back....

And I mean actually back. I know in August I posted something quite similar ( maybe verbatim) and then I disappeared for 5 months, so I understand if you're hesitant to trust me again. But I promise you this time, I'm really back and better than ever. Well maybe not better... maybe more or less the same... probably worse... but I digress. The point is that Kerin's Korner is being resurrected!

I know you might have questions about where I've been and why I've been gone for so long. Firstly, I would like to apologize for leaving without giving you any notice. But most importantly, I think you should know, I have absolutely no explanation or reason for my absence. I missed a post one day, and then it became a week, then a month. And I just kept putting it off. I guess the bottom line is that I was just lazy...

On that same note of laziness, I will be making some changes to Kerin's Korner ... (pause for suspense).   I will not be posting every day.  *gasp*

I think everyday is too much pressure for me right now,  I don't want to burn out, or have another incident of the August Disappearance.  Therefore, I will be taking the weekends off. That way I can use Saturday and Sunday to work on posts for the upcoming week and to recharge.

BUT WAIT! WHAT ABOUT STORY SUNDAYS?!? Don't worry I did not forget about Story Sundays. As of right now, I need to pre-write a few more chapters before I can start posting again. So there will be no Story Sundays for awhile, but it will come back eventually. Now, when it does come back, it won't be every week. I'm thinking once a month or maybe twice a month. Like I said before I'm taking the weekends off.

I am also making a slight change in my schedule. Instead of Makeup Product reviews on Thursdays, Thursdays will now be Throwback Playlists, and all Makeup posts will happen on Mondays.  So my schedule will be as follows:
  • Makeup Mondays (Tutorials and Reviews)
  • Tuesdays with Kerin (Life Updates)
  • Watch or Nah? Wednesdays (Movie and Television Reviews)
  • #TBT Playlists Thursdays
  • Kerin's Top 10 Fridays
Well, that's all folks! I'll see you tomorrow with a review of  a surprisingly good movie!

I don't even know what to say for this song...

Kerin's Top Ten: Foundations for Oily Skin

Hello World!
Hi my name is Kerin and I am a Foundation junkie.

No, but seriously I love foundation, and I think I've mentioned in a previous posts that I have oily-combination skin, so I'm always on the hunt for good foundation that will keep me shine-free throughout the day. I also should mention that I am a full-coverage queen, so most of the foundations on my list are full coverage. Without further ado, here's my top ten foundations of oily skin!

This foundation has a demi-matte finish, so it doesn't leave your face looking flat and it also as SPF!
