La La Land Review

Hello World!  So last week, La La Land was finally released to Blu-Ray and DVD! It's easily one of my favorite movies of 2016, and with 6 Academy Awards, it is also probably one of a lot of other's favorites as well. Anyway here's my review!

Film/ Television Show Information

Name: La La Land

Genre: Musical, Drama, Comedy, Romance

Director : Damien Chazelle

Main Cast: Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling

Ratings

1 = Trash

2 =Meh

3 = OK

4 = Solid

5 = Bomb

Acting/ Performance

X

Comments:
In their third movie together, the chemistry between Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling is still magical and refreshing.

Writing/Screenplay

X

Comments:
This film is about a jazz singer and aspiring actress who fall for each other in LA. Yeah, doesn't sound very interesting, but somehow Chazelle managed to take such a generic plot and make a dynamic and interesting film. It was both funny and tragic. And most importantly it's an original modern day musical, which is hard to create without being cheesy! But he did!

Cinematography

X

Comments:
This film might be a little extra, but it's a musical so it can be. It's all apart of the magic. And this film is very magical!

Costume Design

X

Comments:
I have no real problem with the costumes, expect for the fact that they were nominated for an Academy award for costume design. I mean their just wearing regular clothes! But I will say that I love some the dresses Mia wears. I like both her and her roommate's 'Someone in the Crowd' dresses, and I really like her 'A Lovely Night' dress.

Editing/Special Effects

X

Comments:
Like I said before - magic!

Sound/Music

X

Comments:
I think this still could have been a cute film if it wasn't a musical, but the music is what really brings it all together! The songs and the score are fun, catchy, and moving. So if you don't have 2 hrs to watch this movie, just listen to the soundtrack!

Overall Rating (average the rating numbers above)  - 4.8

Recommendation

I recommend this film to all musical lovers! You'll definitely enjoy it. Also, I recommend to those who enjoy a good romantic comedy.  Now, if you don't fall into either of those categories, then maybe this movie isn't for you. You might still like the film because it is very well put together- production-wise, writing, acting, etc. It's a very well done film, but it does cater to a specific niche. So if you are just not into musicals or Rom-Coms, then no matter how great this film is, you probably still won't enjoy it. So maybe, just listen to the soundtrack! ;)

And then it's off to New Orleans. I just got an email from the director today saying to expect weekly newsletters leading up to our arrival with "action items".  I'm also supposed to be getting an email from Loyola University this week about housing. I wonder who my roommate will be and what she'll be like.

The 2nd round of the playoffs started this week. I got CLE, SAS, WAS, & GSW #DubNation!!!

Kerin's Top Ten: Skincare Products

Hello World! I just want to start my saying I am nowhere near an expert on skincare.  With that being said, here's my top ten skincare products (in no particular order) that I have used, so it is a very limited sample.

I aslo want to say that I have oily-combination, acne prone skin, so the products I picked are catered to those needs.

Top Ten Skincare Products!

I loved this moisturizer! It's really hydrating and helps with skin discoloration and acne scars. See my full review of it here!

This product is great to use at first signs of a breakout, and helps clear your skin quickly.

This is by far my absolute favorite facial wash! It is really great at keeping my skin clear and preventing breakouts!

POND'S Clarant B3 Dark Spot Correcting Cream
With this cream, I see a visible difference in my acne scars and skin discoloration in just a week!

You might think that an oil wouldn't be very good for oily skin, but this oil is so hydrating and smoothing. I like to mix it into a cream moisturizer as an added boost!

This moisturizer is mattifying without drying out your skin! It can also be used as a primer!

After I use this mask,  my skin feels so soft, smooth and refreshed. It definitely removes the excess oils, while still leaving your skin with a radiant glow!

This is great at removing makeup, especially eye makeup, particularly mascara, which I always had a hard time removing.

I like to use this cleanser when I've already broken out, because it helps to clear my skin pretty quickly. And the mask version of this is pretty great as well!

This is another very hydrating moisturizer, that is very rich and creamy, but not oily or too thick.
