Summer's Over

Hello World!

I am writing this post from the airport before I board the plane to take me home - back to H-town! This means my summer is officially over.  And it's a little bittersweet. On the one hand, I'm excited to go home and see my family, but on the other hand I'm going to miss my friends and colleagues and the work I was doing. And then there's the fact that I start school on Monday, which I am never looking forward to. :(

Happy Independence Day!!!

Hello World!

Happy Independence Day or 4th of July! Or as someone people like to say, Happy 2 days before my birthday!

Okay first off, let's just address the elephant in the room.

I have been away for a month. But let's take a look at what I said in my last post.
See, I told you guys and I quote "I don't know how often I will post this summer." Well, it would seem this summer, I would post as often as once a month. And I also said, " if I don't have the time, I will let you guys know," so this is me letting you guys know. And the fact that I'm posting now counts as me not disappearing all summer, so there's that as well.

Where the heck have I been?

Hello World!

Omg! I got online today and realized I haven't posted in 3 weeks! I don't know what happened. I didn't realize it had been so long. I'm so sorry. I guess I just got busy and compounded with my perpetual laziness,  I just lost track of time.  But alas I have found my way, and  I indeed have much to inform on you on. So sit back, relax, and get ready for a slightly longer than usual post today.

Okay, when I last left you, I was neck-deep in my Supernatural obsession and deeply invested in the NBA Playoffs. So none of that has really changed, except I have taken a break from Supernatural because I only have 2 more seasons left and I'm not ready for it to be over. So I've been stemming the tide by re-watching season 13 episodes and watching a tone of Supernatural convention panels. Yeah, it's really bad, but we all have our vices. But for real for real, I've watched so many convention panels, that I'm strongly considering going to the Supernatural convention in Vegas this December, and I hate Vegas, so that's saying a lot. But we'll see. Who knows what I'll be obsessed with come December?

Now Playoffs... I just want to say my predictions were 100% correct. I mean maybe not 100%, but my end results were right. I said Lebron was going to win, and he did that dang thing. And I said the Western Conference was gon be lit, and they did that dang thing. So, I was right. Anyway, Finals start tomorrow! We got the Dubs and the Cavs for the 4th straight year! Turn up! And you already know who I'm going for. DubNation all day!

In completely unrelated news, in my time away, I finally got my driver's license. Yay! I mean technically I still have to go to the DPS to get my actual license, but I already passed the tests and everything. So now I can finally be the free independent woman, I like to think I am.

Okay, so I never have a update without mentioning movies, so what's new on the movie front? So the last to advance screenings I tried to go to were busts. The Deadpool 2 was awful because we sat outside in the sun for hours only for them come out and say we only have 47 seats. Boy bye! So I ended having to use my own hard earned money to see a movie I didn't really want to see. And by hard earned money I, of course, mean my movie pass. But anyway, I did see it so if you want a review, let me know. Then the other screening I tried to go to was Mamma Mia 2. I was going to take my mother on Mother's Day, but it turned out, they were actually just showing Mamma Mia, the original. And honestly that's not a good enough movie to see twice, let alone three times, so we passed. Instead we had breakfast at this wonderful crepe place, called Sweet Paris. I think they have franchises all over, but if you're in Houston, you should check it out, it's in Rice Village. And then other movies... I saw Solo this weekend when I was #downtownliving because of Comicpalooza, which we will get into soon. I saw Book Club yesterday. #MovieTuesday And let me tell you, that movie is a riot. And I'm going to try to see an advance screening of Adrift tonight, but who knows how that will turn out. But if I don't see it tonight, I'll just watch it tomorrow.

Now,  I think the most exciting thing that happened this month, besides getting my license was going to Comicpalooza! It was my first convention and it was pretty exciting! I went with my brother, and we stayed the cutest loft in Downtown Houston, right by Minute Maid Park, and we would walk to the George R. Brown every day, and it was a lot of fun!

We checked into our AirBnb on Thursday night, and then we had dinner at my new favorite restaurant Osso+ Kristalla. And then convention started on Friday. So Friday was all about getting the lay of the land. We checked out some film shorts and some vendors. We went to a discussion about the history of American Comics, which was surprisingly pretty interesting. Then we went to the Charlie Cox Q&A, which I think was favorite panel from the whole weekend. And later, we went to the Orlando Jones Q&A, which was downright hilarious. It was like a stand-up routine. He was so much fun! And then later we went to see Solo.

But Saturday was the big day. The Tom Holland Q&A was happening I was not going to miss it. We went to a strange sword fighting class in the morning. And then we watched this really bad Black Lightning film. And then I went and got in line for Tom, while my brother went to the Mark Waid Q&A. And I'm glad I did, because it was so packed. I got in line 2 and half hours before the panel, and there were already like 50 people in front of me. And by the time, my brother got out of his panel, there were like 1000 people in the waiting room. It crazy. And it really wasn't worth it. Tom was great. He was sweet and funny, but the panel was just meh! The moderator asked a lot questions, the Tom had already answered in other interviews, and then Tom invited this obnoxious kid on the stage, and he just tried to take over the panel. And I'm like dude, this is not about you. Later, we went to the Ray Park Q&A, and that was pretty fun.

Sunday was the last day, and goal was to go shopping in the vendor area to get souvenirs. But since, nothing was really happening everyone was shopping too, so it was really packed. My brother got some Funko Pops to start an actual collection and I got a random grab bag of comics. I was going to get a shirt, but I didn't like any of them. Then we also went to the Ruth E. Carter Q&A. She's the costume designer for Black Panther, and other films. And it was really interesting and informative. Then we left, and went back to the loft, and watched Spider-Man: Homecoming until it was time to return to our regularly scheduled lives. But overall, I had a great time, and I think I'll go back. I think I'm a convention kind of girl!

Now looking toward the future, I'm going to be leaving on Saturday, to go to DC to work this summer. So I don't know how often I will post this summer, but I'm going to try, and if I don't have the time, I will let you guys know. I won't just disappear all summer.

Anyway, I think that's it. Sorry not sorry for the long post!

Tuesdays with Kerin: This is It!

Hello World!

This is it! I'm done! I did it! I had my last final today, and now I'm done with the year! YASSSSSS!!! This time couldn't have come any later, because I am so done with school. But alas now I get a reprieve.
Hmmm.. let's see what did I do last week...

Well my new found love of Supernatural has turned into full blown addiction. It is literally all I do. I sit down, eat ice, and play Solitaire while I watch Supernatural. I'm over halfway through season 7 now, and it's still good!

If I'm not watching Supernatural, then I'm watching the NBA Playoffs, except for the Rockets, because I'm not allowed to watch them. After careful experimentation, I found that whenever I watch the Rockets they lose. As much as I want to be apart of their success, I can't. I'm a bad luck charm, so I must be a fan from afar. But I can watch the Warriors all day! Thankfully, neither DubNation or RedNation, let me down, so we gone have a lit Western Conference Final. Ay! Get Excited! On the other hand, I am so disappointed in the 76ers, in particular Ben "Mr. 1 point" Simmons. But can we just take a moment to appreciate Lebronto, Ontario? Yeah, because Lebron owned the Raptors.  But regardless of whoever wins between the Celtics and the 76ers, the Eastern Conference Finals doesn't seem like it will be that exciting, and Lebron is going to win.

Believe it or not, I did not go to the movies last week. I know. Shocker. But I am supposed to see Deadpool 2 and Mama Mia 2 this week, so I guess I'm making up for it.

Instead of a flick, I saw a different kind of show. Saturday, I went the Houston Symphony with my mother. We saw Mozart's clarinet concerto and Brahms's A German Requiem.  We had seats in the orchestra, which I thought would be nice, because we would be close to the stage. But I didn't realized how close to the stage we'd be. We were only two rows back from the stage. The seats in front of us could literally touch the stage. So if I go again, I'll probably sit a few rows back. But the show was really nice. I really enjoyed the clarinet concerto, and A German Requiem started out fine, but after the 3rd movement I was ready to go. Overall, I really enjoyed the show. It reminded me of when I was in the band (btw I played the flute and I was a boss), and made me wish I had stuck with my music. But alas, I am no artist.

Yeah, I think that's everything. Sorry my life isn't that exciting. I'll try to do better.
