Acting/ Performance

Comments:
This film suffered from a classic case of overacting. Most actors and most scenes were fine, but there were very standout scenes where the actors were clearly just trying too hard.

Writing/Screenplay

Comments:
On the note of trying too hard, this screenplay was literally too much. I understand that the writers were trying to incorporate so many characters and stories into one cohesive unit and that is difficult, but it was just too much going on. It was hard to be invested in a single story line, because they were constantly jumping to the various other things going on. But I think the issue with the screenplay is that it's an incomplete story, so you just have these semi-connected events that never reach culmination, and you're just left there. I also wasn't that fond of the script and dialogue. I thought it was trying too hard to be funny, and I thought a lot of the humor was in juxtaposition with more serious moments, whereas it should be more seamless.

Cinematography

Comments:
All that aside, this film is very visually captivating. It is how a crazy movie with superheros, aliens, gods, spaceships, etc. should look. And it's great!

Costume Design

Comments:
I liked the costumes and makeup for the most part, but if I see one sketchy lace-front wig, I take points off.

Editing/Special Effects

Comments:
I liked the special effects. I think they did a really good job. There was only one specific scene, I can think of, were I was like that looks so fake, but other than that, they were good. But I hated how this film was edited. And I think this is also connected to the story. It was like okay, we're here doing this, then jump cut, now we're doing this, jump cut again, now they're doing this, then jump cut, jump cut, jump cut... it was like sensory overload. I didn't like how we couldn't get more than 5 minutes into a story line before we switched to another.

Sound/Music

X

Comments:
Music was clearly not important seeing as there only two songs used, but I liked the songs they chose and how they were used.  However, I thought the score was extra cheesy even for a superhero movie.

Overall Rating (average the rating numbers above)  - 3.3/5.0

Recommendation: Watch (ish)! 😕

Avengers: Infinity War was the ultimate culmination of something that was 10 years in the making. It brings all your favorite heroes together on the grandest scale. It was meant to a be masterpiece, but it fell short. This film is a cinematographic work of genius with it's incredible visuals and special effects. Couple that with it's incredible ensemble cast of characters, you have an amazing film. But unfortunately, this film also has a fairly disappointing story line. The overall plot is pretty simple: Avengers are trying to stop Thanos from getting the Infinity stones. But it gets complicated and muddle up by multiple story lines and subplots mixed together with jump-cuts, that culminate into a choppy incomplete story. Overall, my biggest issue with this move, is that it feels incomplete, and that's because it is incomplete. Once, Avengers 4 is released, I think this film could be more enjoyable, but as a standalone film, it's not that great. If you're a fan of the MCU, even just a casual fan, then I recommend this film for you. It's fun to see all your favorite heroes working together, and it's got all the incredible fight sequences and humor found in the previous films. But this film is not for the casual viewer. If you haven't seen the MCU films, then this is not the movie to start. This is not a movie you can just watch, you have to have background knowledge. Overall, I think this movie is incredible in many ways, and disappointing in others, and if you're a fan of the genre, like me, then you should definitely watch it. I can't imagine I'd watch it again, but I'm glad I got to see it.

Au Revoir,
