Acting/ Performance

Comments:
Characters were very well-cast. They were similar enough to the characters in the book to satisfy the book fans, but they also brought a little something more for the on-screen adaption. Overall, I think they all gave good performances.

Writing/Screenplay

Comments:
Becky Abertalli wrote a really good story in Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda, so the writers already had good content to work with. Obviously some changes had to be made for the story to translate on the screen, but they kept the core of the story the same. They used all the cliche, rom-com, coming of age movie tactics, but it works, because the story is so powerful and relevant. It's the John Hughes film of our generation.

Cinematography

Comments:
The set designers and cinematographers did a great job at creating the world that Abertalli wrote about. When I saw Simon's room, I was like yeah, that is totally Simon's room. Although it wasn't a visual masterpiece, the film did a great job of using the rest of the screen to add to the scene and the characters.

Costume Design

X

Comments:
I'm a little mad that they changed Simon's Halloween costume from the book, but overall the wardrobes were both consistent with the book and fitting for the characters.

Editing/Special Effects

Comments:
I liked how this movie was edited together - from the voice overs to the little flash montages. I thought it made for a very cute film.

Sound/Music

X

Comments:
Music was important to Simon's character in the book, but in the film, it played a much more trivial role.  The music was still good, and added depth to the scenes.

Overall Rating (average the rating numbers above)  - 4.2/5.0

Recommendation: Watch!😏

The tagline for this film is 'Everyone deserves a great love story.' And that's what this film is. It's a sweet, heart-warming, coming of age, love story, where the main character just so happens to be gay. It's important because it's the first film of it's kind, but it's enjoyable because it's cute, albeit, a little cliche, and well done. This film is well-written and well-acted. It's funny and humorous, but it still has a lot of emotional depth. It's a powerful story that's presented in a very accessible and familiar form for a broad range of audiences. I would recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of coming age films, romantic comedies, and all young adults and teenagers. This film is super cute, and I think you really have to try to not like it at all. If you liked the book, you'll like this movie. It's an excellent adaptation. Overall, Love, Simon definitely gets my stamp of approval, and I think everyone should go see it! Then we can have more films like Love, Simon, more films about unrepresented people, more films for everyone!

Au Revoir,
